I got quick question - can I use the compactflash card between my ipaq and my digital camera? Or do you need a card for each of them? say I save pictures on my digital camera and then goto my ipaq and save a few mp3s ... would they confused?
As long as you leave the directory structure intact for your digital camera, and don't delete the pics except from the camera, you should be fine. The mp3s shouldn't affect the camera, and viewing the pics on the ipaq wouldn't mess anything up. But that's just from my experience
is memorysuppliers.com any good? i have heard and read terrible reviews of the place. i am about to buy some cf. anyone have any experiences with them. thanks
<< I can't believe how cheap flash memory is getting... I spent $70 for a 128mb SM card only a few months ago.
Cool >>
I cant believe you bought it from the wrong place. I bought this 320mb card from memory suppliers 2 months ago for $130.
They also process orders quick & ship via USPS priority. I just ordered another one last week & it was here in 2 days.
For those who don't need the extra space, the cost per MB is actually better on the 256MB Mr. Flash CF card from newegg ($95 shipped/256MB=$0.371/MB). Ditto for the 128MB Mr. Flash ($48 shipped/128MB=$0.375/MB).
While you are right about the cost of $/MB, what are the specs on those Mr.Flash cards?
I mean the read/write speeds etc. Many of the cheaper CFs have lower sustained Read/write speeds.
Good ones atleast have more than 2 to 2.5MB. Cheaper ones more like 1.5 to 1.8MB.
Any info?
The reason I was looking for these cards myself is that I found these cards have similar speeds and specs as the branded more expensive Kingston & Sandisk etc.., but much lesser price
Here's a good article comparing compact flash speeds: DPReview article.
You're correct that some of the pricier media have better performance, but this article makes a good point in that "As you'll see there's a big difference in performance depending on the device driving the card, don't buy a 12x card for your Nikon Coolpix 995 and expect to get 1,800 KB/sec, you won't." Since I'm getting the card for a relatively wimpy Canon S110 digicam, I don't expect that I'll notice any media-related performance problems.
While you are quite correct about the speed not meaning much when it comes to static gadgets like cameras etc, I was more keen on buying it for my iPAQ. Instead of buying the IBM HD, this solid state seemed to make more sense to me in terms of power consumption and speed. (considering the 340MB IBM also seems to be selling for a similar price these days)
This is the Dell deal I just saw on another bargains site:
"Here's a great deal to upgrade your Digicam or PDA with a huge flash card. Search for 691272-4 to find the 256MB card at $149.95. Add a CDRW (12381) to hit $151 - automatic 10% - $25 code <code deleted> - $20 rebate = $91 shipped!"
tazmania99, how are you getting a price of $70 at Dell? Or was this an old deal you're talking about?
Yes, the one I got was an old deal over 2 weeks ago. Meanwhile, Dell had 25% off the memory and a stackable $20 off $100. Plus Kingston $20 MIR, the final cost was $146 - $36.5 (25% off) - $20 coupon - $20 MIR - $1.80 (2 % eBates) = $67.70 shipped!
this place is operated i am pretty sure by the same people at this place premiersystem
pretty similiar don't u think?
anyways...if u check the resellerratings of those two places...it's not worth the risk imho. i ordered from there before because of the good prices and cheap shipping. but it was not a pleasant experience. took me a month to cancel an order and have my credit card charge reversed.
<< I cant believe you bought it from the wrong place. I bought this 320mb card from memory suppliers 2 months ago for $130. >>
I didn't buy from the wrong place because I can't use CF in my camera. I have a Olympus UZI, so I can only use SM unfortunately. $70 shipped for the 128mb SM was a great deal a while back.
Now that I'm going to have an ipaq though, this deal rocks.
<< dam, I need this sucker this weekend. Anyone know of a reasonable place I can get 256mb at? >>
Get the Kingston 256mb CF card from your area. Then order the one from Dell for $90. Once the Dell order comes, return it to your local store for full refund.
Does the $90. Dell deal still apply? I'm trying to check out, but the $25 off 150$ coupon is now a $50 off Dimension or Inspiron purchase. Has anyone been able to check out on the kingston 256mb deal for 90$?
