4 120mm fans for $5.39 shipped after rebate.

I purchased this pack a while back. You get what you pay for. Was going to put them in a new budget build but they sound like absolute trash so that's where they're going, and I just ordered Rosewill Hyperboreas yesterday.

The overwhelmingly glowing reviews just show that sometimes user reviews can't be trusted. If you've used a good fan, you learn what a good fan sounds like.

I don't get fans very often, but I've been wanting to lower the noise on my main machine.
What decibel or sone rating do you all consider as quiet enough?

Anything 20dBA/0.1 sones or less at full speed is quiet enough for me. They should then be nearly silent at idle if the bearings don't whine or rattle. They can be a couple of dBA more if they're inside the case.

This is a very popular model here because it has PWM control, a fluid-dynamic bearing, moves a good amount of air and has decent static pressure while remaining very quiet at full speed. It or the ugly orange model are often on sale for $10. A 20% off coupon drops it to $8, making it a great deal.

I have a couple of Cases for my main rig. I was using a Lian Li PC-A20 Silver, then I went ahead and got a sweet deal on an ABS all aluminum Black Pearl. It's a Lian Li re-badge. But the reason why I need super silent fans is because the entire side where the motherboard, etc. sits is grilled with tiny ventilation holes.

If any I usually look at Scythe's Slip Stream, first.

You should give those Cougars a try.

They're way better than the Slip Stream, IMO, and a lot cheaper when they're on sale, to boot.

Have you ever tried the Slip Stream SY1225SL12 ? or the L model? I ask because if you have ever tried the Slip Stream you'll notice the model I posted (SY1225L12) has NO ELECTRICAL noise to it. There are other models that have an electrical whine that is audible. So I am asking if you have ever tried the one I posted in comparison to the one you posted, and which is quieter?

If you are interested Slipstream

The Cougar has no electrical noise either. It moves 70.5CFM @ 17dBA. The closest Slip Stream moves 68.54CFM @ 24dBA. That's quite a bit louder.

The Cougar is also PWM-controlled and has a fluid-dynamic bearing.

Sure. Get this one instead. It's the same price, has the PWM function that I mentioned earlier and moves 10CFM more air while being imperceptibly (0.2 dBA) louder.

But I would wait until it or the otherwise identical orange model is on sale for $10 while a 20% off all case fans coupon is active, so you can get it for $8 a fan. This actually happens quite often.

I can't comment on the 140mm model since I've never had one. Unfortunately, the PWM model is only available in orange and it's a couple of bucks more. It's also almost never on sale. Otherwise, they're probably as good as the 120s.

Ah crap. I'd like to but I need to stick with 3 pin headers. If things are too loud on it I have a Vantec Fan Speed controller that I'll use to lower the RPM..

These look like sweet fans. And I'm actually sticking with the 120 models. I forgot my 140mm Slipstream fans use 120mm mounting holes ...

Thanks again.

I took a ride up to Micro Center and tested out the CF-V12HB Vortex Hydro-Dynamic fan and it was a little too loud. Then I tried the CF-V14HB and it was quieter at 1200 rpm. Then I took the cable that somehow reduces the rpm of the motor and it seemed like the sweet spot. I caved in and bought only 1. 19$ there.. I should of waited but the noise is killing me. It's funny how when you quiet one thing the others get louder.

I think I'm sold on these particular fans.

Thanks.
