I encourage people to give this game a try. I'm an ex-wow player that is more into PVP then PVE and this game caters to PVPers. It had a lot of hype going for it through development but Mythic screwed themselves by releasing the game broken at launch. The point of the game is not to run instances over and over again (though it does have instances, Ive never done one) in attempts to get some piece of gear to drop but to capture zones which ulitmately leads to invading the other factions capital city. The game was broken at launch by the zones being un-captureable. Since I've been back I've been told that the equation for figuring capture critiera was off at launch and that kept the zones from ever flipping to one side or another. BUT since then the equation has been tweeked and now zones are capturable and capital cities are raidable.

If you like fantasy mmo's and pvp I strongly suggest you give this game a try if you never have or if you like me played at launch and were severly disappointed with the game not functioning as it should give it a second try with the game now working as it was meant to.

Right now WAR has a "neverending free trial", which allows you to play for free all you want but you cant level past lvl10. So you can check it out without having to pay anything.

Hope to see you on the battlefield!!!

Been wanting to play again, I had some really fun times in WAR. Tier 4 and grinding for renown ranks got old though...the PVP just seemed like a never ending zerg fest.

the ONLY fun part of this game is the first tier battlegrounds..
the trial fits that bill perfectly.
the rest of the game is an unbalanced (empty) mess still to this day.

Bought the collector's edition...
Got to upper lv 30s...(Warrior Priest FTW)
Hit Tier 4...
...
...
Uninstalled.

Really though the endgame before I quit was completely lackluster. Every time I look at the Warhammer box, I just get sad. Thanks, but no thanks.

Edit: I'll agree that Tier 1 was damn fun when the game was new. It sharply declined after that though.

I dont know seems pretty balanced to me. What part do you think is not balanced? Im currently in T3 and Order and Chaos seem pretty well balanced. I havent gotten to 40 yet so I cant comment on what its like there on my second time around. But levels 1-22 have been a blast.

And one of the amazing things is I almost dont care about grinding levels. In WoW I HATED leveling. WoW seemed like the game didnt start until you hit the level cap. This game is fun at lvl1 and stays fun, at least for me.

the leveling was completely and totally boring for me..
I too have a CE rotting in the corner right next to Age of Conan CE..

I just couldnt get into anything past T1 made it up to max level and hated it. kept on going back and rerolling T1 and just playing the BGs over and over till I got kicked out.

WoW there is plenty of things to do even as you level now.. but cap for me at least is still more fun.. but they have made it a crapton easier to level now in WoW as well.

Did you participate in ORVR as you leveled? I could see it not being fun if you were just running quests endlessly. What I like to do is set my rally point to the zones RVR camp and work out of there. When I first log on depending how I feel you can just wonder off camp right into the RVR zone and possibly get into some small scale PVP imediately. Ill usually Q for battlegrounds as soon as I log on if Im roaming around in the RVR zone looking for little battles. Currently I'll check for RVR raid groups pretty quickly if I feel like doing ORVR and theres usually always one up. So before you know it youre with 19 other people traveling to different zones battling the other faction either taking keeps and objectives or defending them and getting loot, rep and xp all at the same time. To me its prefect.

Now if youre more into PVE then Id say no youre going to like WoW better.

My biggest complaint was the game had no life, seemed like it was a bunch of junk nailed together. I doubt anyone who made the game had any passion for it.

My biggest complain was that it did NOT at ALL feel like the Warhammer universe, which is dirty, dark and serious. The art style completely nullified the seriousness and the locations were mostly bland and WoW-like. I also agree that it was kinda fun in Tier 1.

Yes I did.. but battles were few and far between on any of the servers I played on.
and T2 and above it got hard to even get a BG match.
the servers were like ghost towns and still were even recently when we tried again to get back into it.

I think it was the exact opposite actually - there was so much passion for the lore (if you've played the table top game and/or read the books you'll know how cool the world is) that they tried to fit as much as possible into it. Did seem a bit disjointed to me but I definitely felt their passion for the Warhammer world having followed it myself.

Ah. Yes, that would put a damper on things. Assuming youre in the US theres really only one server to play on, Badlands. There are others but Badlands is the most populated and probably the only one worth playing on.

Leveled two characters to 40, i loved the pvp instances until you reached t4, so many people where botting at that time, it got really boring when everyone started to leave cause there was no content, still play the free version every once in a while.

Yup, apparently Badlands has more people than the rest of the NA servers combined. In general T1 and T4 are packed but there sometimes isn't that much going on in T2-3. The good thing though is you can level to T4 really fast with grind groups. Basically you join a group of 4-6 ppl and farm a spot where the mobs keep respawning infinitely. The thing is they are in the RvR zones so you have to watch for the other faction taking it away from you.

Someday I'll play this game. About 2 years ago when amazon had a huge blowout on their WO stuff, picked up the game and enough time cards for about 20 months for around $50. None of it has been opened yet though.

I played it again recently and it was actually pretty fun. A lot better than release, though it still has its problems. They have an expansion pack coming out sometime soon and a lot of the RvR mechanics are being rebuilt for the better. I guess you technically won't need the xpac to enjoy those benefits, but they are raising the RR cap to 100 and making those who purchase it level to RR80 at an accelerated rate.

Im in T3 and theres been stuff going on every night since I got in it. There very well could be some nights were theres nothing going on but so far so good for me. I just ask in T3 chat if theres anything going on and theres usually a Warband up doing something. The great thing I think is you almost dont want to level to 40 fast because theres good gear to get at the early levels. Theres armor sets that start at like lvl10 and more then just one.

I played around launch time and then again a few months later and got turned off as soon as I hit t3 both times. First time there were some MAJOR imbalances in population and character power between order/destruction, and after about a week of getting owned in every single BG (literally), losing 500 - 50 in every match, and similar results in ORvR, I quit.

Second time around there was basically nothing going on in t3. I spent both my days off one week trying to get some shit done, and there was no rvr and no scenario pops. I got disgusted and quit again.

I just picked it up again and it seems a little better. T1 is entertaining as ever, theres action going on around the T1 warcamps at all hours of the day and night. T1 scen's can be frustrating when you run into some guy whos spent 40 hours twinking out his endless trial character and runs around with a twinked out pocket healer, but you can just wait a few minutes so they get dropped into a scenario and then you jump into the next one.

T2 was pretty good too, I mostly play early in the morning and late at night, but even then theres some action going on usually. I hit T3 yesterday and its pretty disappointing so far. Scenarios are taking at least twice as long to pop as they were in T2. ORvR seems pretty active, but unless you get into big keep battles (and WIN them) the leveling in ORvR is dismally slow. Thankfully theres a spawn of level 31 Champion mobs that are easy to grind levels on, but it can be hard to get a spot in the group and you will have to be prepared to get rolled by destruction groups heading out to farm it (its in an ORvR lake). I really want to make it to T4 this time around, so I'm just gonna suck it up and pve grind till I get there (I level strictly through ORvR/SC's in T1, and completely through SC's in T2).

Overall I'm having fun in T1 and T2 like I had the last few go arounds, but I do feel like the game is more polished all around than in the past. Classes are well balanced, population imbalances aren't as bad as they used to be, a lot of bugs have been fixed, etc. Also theres a pretty big patch/expansion coming out tomorrow which is going to re-vamp a lot of the RvR aspects of the game. I don't know enough about the RvR scene at T4 to make any judgments about it, but from what I've heard a lot of people are saying that the changes are going to be really good. You can also spend a little cash to get some bonuses like faster leveling, mounts, additional ranks obtainable (renown rank 100), and various cosmetic changes.

Endless trials are being (or were) migrated to specific servers now. Also, the T1 cap is now 15, and they're stuck at 10.

Are you on Badlands? Chaos or Order? See for me, like I said before, I dont really want to level fast because theres some badass gear you can get before tier 4. The ORVR gear is mostly what I'm talking about. And to be able to get this gear you have to do all the open pvp stuff. The thing is you dont want to level out of that tier before you get the gear youre after. Of course that gear will eventually be useless and youll have to move on but its so much better then youre average blues and greens you get while leveling youll dominate someone who doesnt have it. Whats cool about the ORVR gear is its not just boosted stats, like more strength or intelligence, they have unique abilities attached to them, a bow I was looking at lastnight, Im a squig, had a chance to apply a dot plus -40% movement speed. That freaking owns. Movement speed is huge in PVP.
