you can wear your tinfoil hat and claim wow has copied whomever you think they have copied, fact is all of the stuff you are claiming they have ripped off from someone else has been in the works for years, all the stuff going into wrath has been planned for years, if WAR was not delayed as much as it was the stuff would still be coming in wrath, I don?t know why you seem to think they are doing it simply because of WAR

Also interesting as you argue blizz copied some things from WAR, where 80% of WAR is a direct copy of WoW, which was a copy from EQ and all other MMOs that came before it.

Just to set something straight here: RvR is a term that comes from DAoC, which includes a persistent state battleground (or multiple battlegrounds), two or more teams (realms, if you will), and multiple objectives that do not impact the PvE aspect of the game to a large extent (keep/town sieges). RvR has nothing to do with cross-server battlegrounds, such as those in World of Warcraft. RvR is a special type of team-based PvP, where the team you fight on is determined by your race affiliation, not any arbitrary choice. Thus, all guilds and characters in a realm are fighting toward a common goal.

Once again, RvR has nothing to do with cross-server fighting. That's a WoW invention that does not seem to be present in WAR. The realms in WAR are the different sets of races: Order and Destruction. The realm war in WAR is Order v. Destruction.

Whomever didn't know that doesn't know their MMO history.

Note to the wow fangirls who were dead wrong: taking notes?

LOL.

ladies and gentleman, i present to you epic fail named anoobis.

rvr = realm vs realm = one side vs the other.

not server vs server, twit.

You're a douche. "Realm" = "server" in WoW. Therefore, Wintergrasp is NOT RvR.

Does this sound familiar? "The following realms will be offline for extended maint..."

You're describing fvf. Faction versus faction.

dead wrong. see few posts above and enjoy your crow.

LOL. but anoobis said it's always been cross server, even before wow.

so no, it's not reasonable.
and yes, he is dead wrong.

no i said ive never heard of anyone refer to PVP as RVR

so yes it is reasonable, and no im not wrong

read above and take notes, son.

MMO's based mainly on PvP cannot survive. Period. I can explain if you want, but I'm sure you're just going to reply with something lame regardless.

WAR won't fail because it's taking the majority of pvpers away from wow

much like daoc never failed until it shot itself in the foot with a pve expansion

oh, and considering daoc was a mmo based purely on pvp, enjoy your crow :)

and grats again on being dead wrong about what "rvr" really is.

edit: for the record, i'll be working the markets in both games.

moving 300,000 gold since season 1 via jewelcrafting ftw baby.

Wow is a fantastic game pve wise, the pvp is terrible and created with making it easy in mind.

General mechanics carry over from every MMO, that much is a given. I played EQ for quite a while before WoW.

What WoW did was took those mechanics, and on top of adding many more, polished them to a shine. One such example is making questing easier by simply adding the gold !'s and ?'s. No other MMO before WoW did that and many, MANY (including WAR) after have done it.

PvP was the end-game in DAoC, this is true. However, one could not reach that end purely by PvP alone. PvE was an integral part of making it to that endgame.

I was in the Closed Beta. I probably didn't give the game a fair shake.. but my initial impressions weren't that great. It just felt like another "WoW" to me. I can see where this game may succeed as the "side-game" for WoW players who wants some more meat with their PvP.

oh come on, i'm not that bad.

i just put these wow fangirls in their place.

notice how they can't even respond to the lake wintergrasp question.

who's copying who now?

to be perfectly honest i have 100% no idea WTF you are talking about in in regards to lake wintergrasp. im not in the beta and the only beta news i read is whatever is posted in the wow thread here on AT

if it is indeed RVR (which i doubt) like you said, they arnt copying anything blizz has entertained the RVR idea for a long time, as well as seige weps which were supposed to be implemented in the origional AV

if you have "100% no idea" about wintergrasp, then wtf are you talking about it?.

lake wintergrasp is an rvr zone / siege weapons finally implemented. it took them how many years? 4-5? despite the requests of how many players? oh, and just in time to steal mythic's ideas, with a cartoony ripoff twist.

so again, why aren't these fangirls answering the wintergrasp question?

wintergrasp is not RVR what?s the question o great master tool douche troll?

oh so now wintergrasp isn't horde vs alliance rvr?

glad we cleared that up. another pathetic failed pvp attempted by blizzard before it's even been released :)

no blizz never claimed it would be Relam vs Realm iuts just a PVP preanted zone

"Wintergrasp will appear in the second World of Warcraft expansion as the first non-battleground zone fully dedicated to World PvP, even on PvE servers. It will focus on siege weapon warfare"

what the f? sounds like rvr to me. even a ripoff of mythic's siege warfare :)

lie more.

edit: and where was this supposed world pvp zone before warhammer came along? nuff said.

So, by your logic, WoW and Warhammer are ripping off Shadowbane. All games are full of ideas copied from one another. What makes you think Warhammer is such a unique and special snowflake of the MMO genre?

This is as bad as P&N.

Just play the fucking game you like. If you dont like it, dont play it. I for one enjoy WAR and dont plan to ever go back to WoW.

pvp is why people stayed and daoc has the mmo title of rvr / pvp king.

pve was mediocre and nobody really cared. there's no challenge in scripted ai.

considering daoc came before shadowbane, no.

warhammer just extends on a proven / succesful formula. not bad considering daoc had zero advertisements or pr when it was released.

PvP succeeded in keeping DAoC alive because it was a niche market then. Your choices were EQ, AC, and DAoC (maybe a couple other obscure titles). Even then, PvP'ers made up a very small minority, but they all congregated in one game, DAoC. Now you have a LOT of choices, not to mention many other styles of games, such as RTS or FPS. PvP'ers have always been the MMO minority. WAR will not change this. People will jump ship from WoW and play WAR for their free month then most will come right back because they won't be able to keep up with the hardcore players or they'll see just how badly they pigeon hole you into PvP'ing (just like WoW does for PvE).

pvp is why people stayed and daoc has the mmo title of rvr / pvp king.

Having the title of PvP King in the MMO market isn't exactly a crowning achievement when it means you are able to hold the attention of less than 5% of the market.

Edit: And only one WoW'er in here has said they didn't know what RvR was, and that was because he hadn't heard of it from DAoC. I like how every time you post it's just to point out that one person didn't know what one term meant in a decade old game.

you're severely underestimating the massive chunk of the mmo playerbase that wants good pvp / rvr. keep in mind that 99% of the wow population never heard of daoc before they jumped into wow :) now throw a marketing giant, EA, behind warhammer and see what happens.

war succeeds in giving that to them because blizzard shot themselves in the foot by implementing mediocre / terrible pvp.

look at how many fans of pvp there are in the fps market alone. look how many have jumped off the wow ship already. look how big the pvp playerbase was in the starcraft / warcraft battle.net.

look how many used to arena / do the repeititive battleground grind only to have it all wiped out in a matter of months.

and you're saying pvp has a small following? dead wrong again, pve fangirl.

you can love scripted ai, non challenging monster killing all you want. but don't lie your ass off (again) and claim there isn't a large pvp fanbase.

also, make up more excuses for being dead wrong on the definition of "rvr".

for your silly little RvR fight...this is directly from Mythic's FAQ :

Realm vs. Realm, or RvR, is a term trademarked by Mythic during the development of Dark Age of Camelot. RvR is team-based Player vs. Player (PVP) game-play where each realm works together toward a common goal. Players choose a side by selecting a race and, in the case of Warhammer Online, they battle it out in areas and work toward goals provided by the game, including Scenarios, Keep Siege, and City Siege. It means that a player never has to fight alone because there is always an army of allies that has his back. Players can choose to level up in RvR areas, or stay in safer, Player vs. Environment (PvE) areas until they are ready to jump into the real battles of WAR.
