I searched and didn't find a thread for the game. Its a F2P FPS with an emphasis on both PvP and PvE developed by Crytek running on their CE3. Right now they're allowing name registration and signing up for the closed beta, US launch date is sometime in 2012. But its already been released in Russia, so I downloaded the client and registered; and used the English translation files. Played a game and I was pretty impressed.
Graphically speaking it isn't as good as Crysis 2, but it scales very well; and if you crank the settings up it still looks pretty nice. I guess they're trying to make certain that they don't exclude too many people based on hardware, minimum specs are 2ghz dual core and 8600GT, and 1/1.5 GB of RAM(1 for XP, 1.5 for Vista+). The only recommended spec I remember is a Radeon 4830.
I enjoyed the game play in my first round, it had a good pace, not too slow, and not too fast. There is more infantry combat than in BF3, which appeals to me, smaller maps, but they are designed quite well, its 8v8. There is class system very similar to BF3, standard AR carrying rifleman, a medic, a sniper, and the engineer. And I didn't have to deal with any of the CoD MW3 "you just killed me but I immediately, randomly spawned behind you and killed you back" crap, which I couldn't stand. There is also an element of team work, there are "assists", certain actions that require help. Like getting someone to help you climb up onto a roof. I don't speak Russian, but people still seem help you out when you need it.
It has micro transactions, but I think its much better than Nexon's policy of charging $30 for a permanent gun in Combat Arms. Warface has 3 currencies, one is accumulated by simply playing, one is acquired from PvE, and the other is obtained with real money. Guns can be bought for durations, and permanently with the earnable currency. I suppose its more like DOTA or LoL where real money is mostly used for cosmetics. It also appears to have an unlock system for gear and weapons similar to BF3.
My ping must be at least 300, I would notice shooting some guy 3 times and waiting a while before he died, but I was 22/12 my first game, all default gear, 3rd place on the team, good enough for me. I wasn't too impressed with the Russian gamers
, you can tell if they're not Russian, their name is all numbers, it only accepts letters from a Russians keyboard.
I've been an avid player of BF3 and Tribes: Ascend, but as long as they don't mess up the US version of Warface, this could easily become my most played FPS.
