Warez and 'puter sales.

I always wonder, if it wasn't for warez, the proliferation of computers into society would not have reached the proportions it has. Everyone I know, purchases a computer, completely oblivious the later investments in software, simply because they don't make those investments. I think I've purchased 3 programs in my whole life, and I've been using computers since the Commodore 64 days.

he has a point.

so what you're saying is you're pretty much a douchebag? and pretty much anyone in the software development industry really has no respect for you? Someone out there is buying software, otherwise there would be no software industry, and you'd just have... well a computer.

warez is bad. downloading warez is immoral and you shouldn't do it!

/me goes to log into IRC and see if anything has been leaked lately

I think you have a valid point, enough of one to actually be discussed. What it doesn't warrant is name calling or a lock imo, but the insults have come, don't know about a lock.

While warez might help push the population to the newest and next best thing, if it was entirely warez their would be no software industry and thus that next level wouldn't even exist. So you can't really get there with just one of them. You gotta have the people buying to let the developers keep working, and then the warez to give access to those who wouldn't normally have access.

I'm sorry you are so angry. Perhaps you should give up on your shareware career, my little friend. You do realize, that the intangible nature of your work product that has made it so easy for me to duplicate, is the same thing that makes your work product so infinitely more profitable than a normal, physical one (duplication costs=zero). I guess it's just balancing out, right? 🙂.

And that is what is happening. Whether or not its "fair" the people who buy the software are the people who buy the software. Those who don't, don't. That is the market. While tighter regulations would force some more purchases, do you think AOL kiddies would really buy those copies of AutoCad and Maya? The Copyright Gestapo is as guilty of distorting the picture as the warezfreaks. The difference is, the Copyright Gestapo is presumably legitimate, and therefore their propaganda is that much more reprehensible.

You guys realize how little the game developer gets when they sell a game, right? I think it's like $1 in a $50 game. Although, it might be different for apps.

I'm not a software program, but i plan on a career in the gaming industry... i'm not gonna lie i use warez sometimes, but if you like something, buy it. If your everyone had your train of thought, then there would be no incentive for the software/gaming industry to make new games.

It's not like the industry is in shambles because of warez, i'm just saying show some support

The stuff that i usualy get from friends or online is stuff that i would not buy, thus software companies arent loosing out on my money 🙂

Yes but that's $1 less for them for each game you pirate

I'm not a software program either. I'm a human being.

(although some people have accused me of being a troll-bot)

That's one of the reasons why the Playstation was so popular. Rarely did i ever see real, store-bought games, but i'd be damned if everyone didn't have one.
