No 5.7L Chevrolet engine mentioned.

That sure is odd considering it is probably the greatest all around v8 of all time.

Any top 10 engine list that leaves the 350cid Chevy off is plain old wrong.

Agreed. I like the following line:

Rounding out the new entrants to the 10 Best Engines list is Audi AG with its power- and technology-laden 4.2L DOHC V-8, which powers the special S4 variant of the company's A4 compact sedan/wagon lineup. The thrusty Audi V-8 produces 340 horsepower and 302 lb.-ft. of torque, making it one of the market's most powerful V-8s.

Conservatively, my SS makes atleast 300 RWHP and lb-ft of torque, which, at the fly wheel would be much more. Obviously though, the displacement is higher and the engine overall is probably lower on the "technology" scale. But the Audi's V8 is definitely not one of the "most powerful"

MD.

the Renesis brings significant and exciting new improvements to
the design
Improvements like slightly less horsepower and significantly less torque than the RX-7 rotary engine?

The RX-7 that had more horsepower also had turbos. The non turbo one had some absymally low (for a sports car) hp like 170 or something.

The LS1 (Not a 350ci, but a 346 - close enough) was on the 2000 and previous lists. It's an awesome engine and I have an LS1-powered car myself, but face it - it was new in '97, and hasn't really been updated since then (other than the LS6). I'm sure GM will unleash another (GenIV?) killer V8 engine when the C6 is introduced, but until then, I believe all of the engines on that list are more deserving.

Fifties technology? Are you referring to the old SBC or something?

Yeah, lets see. The Hemi makes 345, the LS1 makes 345, the LS6 makes 405, Ford's Lightning makes 380, Ford's GT makes 500. All of which have torque numbers that devestate the 302LB/ft. My little budget V8 that puts out 230HP is only 7 LB/ft shy of that. (295 LB/ft). Unless "the market" is defined as "overpriced european...", then they'll get eaten alive. 302LB/ft isn't that impressive.

They don't make the 350 anymore it's a 346 now, different block, and I agree though ;)

But noone really likes OHV anymore cause it's cheap to produce easy to fix and a very simple layout, people want sh!t that is impossible to fix without ripping out the entire engine because it's so cool :disgust:
