Warcraft III: alt tab issue

This is an odd problem. At times in the past, when I was playing warcraft 3 and alt+tabbed to look at another window, it would just minimize the WC3 window and be very quick. Today I hooked up a new monitor and changed some things (resolution, refresh rate, etc.) and now when I alt+tab out of WC3, the monitor changes modes -- the LED changes from green to orange and then back again, the screen goes black for a few seconds before taking me out of the game.

The settings in the game for color depth and resolution are the same as on my desktop, and i do have vsync enabled.

video card is GF4 ti4400
monitor is planar px171m
running 1280x1024x32

if anybody could help me out with this, I'd really appreciate it. This is very annoying.

Is the refresh rate in WC the same as on your Windows desktop? If not, you might want to either adjust the system refresh rate or the DirectX refresh rate through NVIDIA's configuration tab.
 
that didn't work either. however, i solved the problem. the system gamma and wc3 gamma were different because i had wc3 gamma up really high (my last monitor was very dark) and never changed it to a normal level again.
