Warcraft 3 ROC over LAN

My kids used to play Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos a few years ago over our home LAN with no trouble at all. Recently for whatever reason they have all decided to relive their glory days with this game, and have re-installed it. All three have a legitimate copy of the game, with their own cd-keys which have never been banned or anything like that.

They can connect to Battle.net without any difficulty but playing over the LAN is impossible. They can't host games on Battle.net either, although they can see each other's games on Battle.net, they can't join. I have all machines on the LAN set to static IP addresses, ports open and forwarded on the router to each machine corresponding with each player's port, i.e., 6112, 6113, etc.

All the machines on the network can see each other and have file sharing enabled, and files are easily shared over the network without difficulty. All other LAN games work flawlessly.
But naturally this one game refuses to cooperate. Even if I turn off the Windows firewall completely, none of the players can even see each other's LAN game.

I'm running WinXP Pro SP2 on all these machines, no other firewall besides the Windows firewall and the router's NAT. I've been to portforward.com, I've tried Lancraft, which appears to be a proxy server program for WC3, with no joy.

I'm totally at a loss here to explain why this one game refuses to work. I'd appreciate any ideas anyone could throw out there.

thanks
