Warcraft 3 locks up....

Warcraft 3 will not run on either of our computers...pops me back to desktop...

Have installed patch, have DirectX 8.1.

One comp is Win XP, Abit IT7, Geforce4400 with 2.8.3.2 drivers
Other is Win2000, Abit BH-6, Geforce 2-GTs with 2.9.4.2 drivers

Here is error message on the Win2000 machine:
FATAL ERROR!

Program: C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3.exe
Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 001B:0EFA1380

The instruction at '0x0EFA1380' referenced memory at '0x00000080'.
The memory could not be 'read'.

On Win2k you may be having permission problems. Some games/apps have to be installed with Administrator privlleges. The problem is, after you've installed them like this, you don't have read/write permissions to the registry keys/files that the install created.

Have you tried running Warcraft 3 as Administrator on your Win2k box? That 's what I do and have no problems.

I've been encountering the same problem (as I've noticed many, many people on various forums have as well). I suggest using a "hacked" executable temporarily until Blizzard releases a patch. It seems to fix the problem (I'm refering to the "no CD" hack).
