Does anyone happen to know the system requirements to play Warcraft 3. My last system crapped out on me and I'm not sure how long I want to wait before I get another one. I was wondering what the tech specs are for playing this game. That will be one of my considerations in buying the machine.

from the blizzard site:

Your computer must be at least a Pentium III 600 (or equivalent), with 128 MB RAM or more.
Your computer must have a mouse, 400 MB of available hard drive space, a 4X CD-ROM or faster, a 32 MB 3D accelerator card with Direct3D support, a DirectX compatible 16 bit sound card, a 28.8 modem (or better) with Internet connectivity, and DirectX 8.1.
You must be running Windows 98, 98SE, 2000 (running with local Administrator privileges), ME or XP to play the Warcraft® III: Reign of Chaos? beta on your system.
Your Internet connection must be capable of running 32-bit Windows socket applications (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer).

Aren't those specs for the beta only? The official specs aren't out yet right?

Check out the firingsquad.com preview

http://firingsquad.gamers.com/games/war3betageneral/page2.asp

--------
Work:
Athlon 1.1GHz
256MB RAM
GeForce 2 GTS

Home:
P3 933MHz
256MB RAM
GeForce 2 GTS

I play the game at 10x7x16 now, with all detail settings turned to high. It?s very playable most of the time, but I still experience slowdown in big battles.

---------

It's probably pretty CPU dependent, but because of that, FSAA should be free on geforce 3+

There may or may not be much speed increases between beta and final.

I'm on a celeron 1000 with 448 ram and a gf3 at 220/500. I believe my computer is too slow for war3. I play on 1024X768 with all of the graphics at low except for textures on medium. It's plenty fine _most_ of the time but in thick battles it is unusuable such that I can barely issue commands at all and the frame rate drops pathetically low.

War3 in its current state I'd say for perfect game play you want a 1.5 ghz system. By perfect i mean play on the 12 player map and not get slow down in the super big battles... in fact even then I don't think 1.5 will cut it. The game is in serious need of performance tweaking. It can also eat 100 megs of ram, so the p3 600/128 ram that blizzard is posting there is fantasy land.

I've genrally found that lag affects performance much more than system specs. Speaking from a 1.4 Ghz though
