warcraft 3 freezes

sometimes when i exit warcraft on my macintosh (usually when i play longer, like an hour or more) it just freezes. if i exit from the main menu, that picture is frozen. if i exit from in the game, it freezes... It isn't totally frozen though. i can still pop out the cd. i can't hit command tab or command h for some reason. help! is there any way i can fix this without restarting? i really don't want to.
