when i bought warcraft 3 RoC i imediatly made a backup in case it broke, got too scratched, etc. yesterday when i go to play i find my original disk in a million pieces (more like 6) so i go and get my backup and i pop it in i get this error "Please make sure your Warcraft III disc is in your CD-ROM drive, then click on Retry" i tried uninstalling and then reinstalling from the backup and it sucessfully reinstalled but i still get the error when trying to play.

any suggestions???

I'm guessing you just tried to do a copy with nero or something?

Sorry buddy you are SOL. hardcore copy protection measures were used on the original war3 cd, it would let you copy it but the cd structure would not be the same. To make an actual dupe of the disc you would need to use a program like alcohol 120% to create the image and burn. I think that war3 used securom, but dont quote me on that.

If your copy is truely legit you have some options:

1) Send the broken disk to Blizzard and for a few dollars they will replace it. Look in their FAQ for this information.

2) The game is so old you can often find a warcraft pack (wc2 wc3 wc3:tft) for like 25 dollars.

Lets face it option 2 is better.

No-CD crack will work. Like it or not, I patch all my retail games with a no CD patch. (yes, they are all legit.)

Same, saves wear & tear on discs and your drive, and the hassle of finding & inserting them when you want to play. For some games they're hard to find or are for older versions which the game developer has since patched (I've found most Blizzard games are this way) - in these cases I generally make a disc image using Nero, and incorporate the mounting of said image in a virtual drive with running the exe into a single shortcut using Daemon Tools with the Daemon Script addon.
