Agreed, as long as the hooker treated like a human being and not treated like a slave by some asshole pimp. IE, if she's self employed, or in a union that actually protects the workers...
You're bringing me down, man...

I don't like to see people being abused. I got nothing against prostitution. I think it's perfectly fine as long as the working women are doing it by their own free will :)

Agreed - if the prostitute doesn't mind doing the job and isn't being abused, I see no problem with it. Prostitution should be legalized and regulated in my opinion, since people are going to do it regardless of the law.

not to poo poo on this thread, but those of you stating that a majority of the jurors were against this prosecution have some reading comprehension issues.

In total, 5 out of 27 jurors expressed reservations about the prosecution. Where I come from, 19% is not exactly a majority.

Not to mention I'm not sure I'd want this guy as the poster child for the legalization movement. Read the article. He's not just on trial for possession - he's very likely a dealer, is an eight time convicted felon, goes around knocking up women and skipping out on the kids -

agree with drug laws or not, this guy is the quintessential stereotype for why drug laws exist.

I think the article was just worded poorly and meant to say that out of the 27, only 5 AGREED that they should prosecute.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Neckbeard is a cancer on this forum and his account needs to die a violent and murderous death.

Oakland has now moved to try and sue/prosecute hotels that have become havens for prostitution. Saw this on the news last night--they're currently targeting 3 shady hotels.

this is so fucking ridiculous, lol.

Pretty crap and the Church of England wasn't set up until Henry the VIII, we had a country waaaaay before that ;)
Yeah, a country that beholden to the Vatican waaaaay before that. One fo the main reasons the Church of England was set up in the first place was so that horny Henry could divorce his wife (without the messy need for the Pope's approval) and marry another woman that he was already banging on the side.

I'm just pointing out that you shouldn't be casting stones about religious influences when your own country has a long, storied past of that very thing.

Yes I am. If it is the law you have three options. Live with it, Move or Vote for change, you can't just say "well fuck it I don't agree with it so I'll just ignore it"

Dude, how many times do we have to go over this with you?

Actually, in fact, you can just say "fuck it, I don't agree with it so I'll just ignore it."

That's what I'm doing right now. That's what these jurors did, and that's what you would do if you weren't a mindless sheep.

You can see the similarities between alcohol and marijuana use, you just choose to ignore them - just as easily as we chose to ignore the law regarding them.

Simple.

Agree it's worded poorly, but it looks like only 5 out of the 27 raised issues with the prosecution.

Another source:

All told, five jurors raised questions about marijuana prosecution.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/23/us/23pot.html

And I'm not stating this is an issue here, but I've seen jurors come up with any excuse possible to get out of serving on a jury. True story - criminal trial for something like robbery. Potential juror was adamant that he thought everyone accused of a crime was guilty. Very obvious the guy was lying. Judge excused him and, on his way out, directed him next door where they were seating a jury for a civil matter expected to have a 3 month trial.

I'm perfectly ok with jurors refusing to sit on stupid as fuck cases. We the people have the final say in everything, the government works for us, not vice versa. Great way to get our voices heard to those who actually write law.

Also, it's an opportunity to get a bit of tax revenue...as would be the case with legalizing drugs :hmm:.

That doesn't mean it's ok to ignore the law...

No I don't believe in religions, I think they should be abolished, they cause more problems than they are worth.

On a side note are you seriously comparing stoning women to death to arresting people for drugs?!

You're talking about putting a person in jail for collecting plants that natively grow in north america.

When I'm elected gov'na, I'm going to send out roaming death squads that kill everyone who touches crab grass. :ninja:

neckarb, what does that have to do with anything? We are not the UK, we actually wanted nothing to do with the UK, hence the reason we have our own country.

Uh... Marijuana doesn't natively grow in North America. In fact the only place I know of historically it is from is the Kush mountain range in the Afghanistan area.
