Good news today, at least for me :)

Seems Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise are joining effords on making an adaptation of the great sci-fi novel "War Of The Worlds" by "H. G. Wells".

With Spielberg directing and Cruise as the main character, this could be a blast. I just hope they don't make one of those "US-are-the-heroes-and-the-world-only-hope" movies, like the "Independance Day" one.

<----- Looking Forward To It.

That might be good except for the fact that Tom Cruise is not a good actor.

Chance of suckage: High.

And everyone knows how the damn thing ends... the Martians get killed by the common cold.

Cruise a bad actor? Agree.

No, but see, like the Planet of the Apes "re-imagining", they would change the end to throw in some kind of surprise twist, no doubt making Cruise look like the UberHero he thinks he is.

Well, I must agree that Cruise is not an awesome actor, I still prefer a Sean Connery, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis, Tom Hanks.

But I also believe that Tom Cruise is getting better with each film. All actors get better and better with each film they make, and the role they get on each movie may fit some actors better than others ... for example I think Tom Hanks it's a good actor, I like to see his movies, but long time ago he was just another comic actor searching for a good reputation ... he made quite a big way to what he is today as an actor, and he will continue to climb up the stairs. Same for Sean Connery, which I believe to be one damn good actor ... time seemed to make it better and better ... just like wines get better as time passes by.

I just hope this one movie gets to be a good one.

I would like to see the movie set back in the late 1800's like the book, rather than in modern times. Any idea what slant they'll be taking with it?

I liked "Lost Samurai" movie ... I think the role suited "Tom Cruise" well, I mean he is not the n00b kid he was on Top Gun anymore ... and the great actors are getting old :) not every roles suit them now.

"Terminator 3" gave me the real proof of that, when Arnold came to the game naked ... he used to have a V-shaped body ... now it's like a H-shaped one :D ... well, he's a polititian (sp?) now, eheh.

"War Of The Worlds" it's a great sci-fi novel. Spielberg is a good director, I hope he's the one who get to make the decisions.

Spielberg will take the guns away from the Earthmen in the movie, and have them fight the Martians with walkie-talkies.

That's what I'm affraid of ... ruining the movie with a poor adaptation of the original novel, and making something like the truly-bad "Independence Day".

One real adaptation will also make it a big movie itself ... one that could easily end up in a 2 movie release, like the 3 movie release we saw in "Lord Of The Rings".

Oh, I can almost feel my back hurt by so many time seating on a theater! :D

so maybe theyd get syphyllis from "probing" some chick and *then* die?

Nah, Cruise would convince them of the wonders of Scientology. They would accept him as their prophet, and link him up for a Mars-wide telecast to preach the truth to all Martians. Once they were all listening, and realized what an absolute retard he was, their heads would explode from shame at buying into a religion that was created due to a wager between a couple of writers.
