north korea is testing the waters, south korea currently has no president and no obvious frontrunner. and one of its most powerful businessmen coincidentally is under arrest. kim jong un's brother was hit (and not by him).

what's the next play here? i wouldn't hit kim jong un, he seems harmless. the guy who replaces him might actually use the nukes.

china's boom has softened and is struggling to hold things together. japan's been capped out for decades. the filipino president get messages from god. thailand's old king croaked last year, crown prince seems unfit for the job. taiwan has a new president making them de-facto independent. imo the asian order is completely up in the air.

remember when everyone was touting "the asian century"... sounds so 2012

Geesh, WTF do you think ordered the hit on the brother? He was exiled and critical of NK, they were going to whack him whenever they got the chance.

Nothing needs to be done about NK. They're not really going to use the nukes as they know 1/100th of our arsenal turns their entire country into a parking lot. National leaders get to be national leaders by putting their own self-interest first. That's why nobody lights off nukes over a hissy fit, it's suicide. Kim Jong Whichever isn't going to nuke us and put himself out of a job and into grave. He'll rattle some sabers, try to look tough and lead the good life (by NK standards).

1) NK hires out killing, they do it all the time.
2) Nobody knows what chemical weapons NK has. Them saying they don't have VX means nothing.
3) NK has used chemical weapons before and is one of only six countries not to have signed the CWC
4) NK has made at least two other attempts at killing Jong-Nam before.

And you really think they were not behind it?

that's right, because they don't have vx. so either someone else did it for them, or someone else did it for themselves.

What makes you think they don't?

NPR said:

Suspicions were only stoked further with last week's revelation by Malaysian police that the poison used to kill him was VX nerve agent, which is classified as a weapon of mass destruction and banned by the international Chemical Weapons Convention.

North Korea is not a signatory to the treaty, though, and NPR's Elise Hu reports the country is believed to have stockpiles of the chemical, along with up to 5,000 tons of various other agents.

CNN said:

VX is said to be relatively easy to produce in a reasonably sophisticated laboratory.
"Any country with a sophisticated chemical weapons effort can produce VX," said CNN's military analyst Rick Francona. "The formula has been around since the 1950s so its nothing new, it just has to be made, the political will and determination that we are going to build this weapon." "Evidently the North Koreans have it and managed to weaponize it."

The Guardian said:

North Korea claims it has never had a chemical weapons programme. But in fact it is believed to possess between 2,500 and 5,000 tons – behind only the US and Russia – including VX, according to the Nuclear Threat Initiative.

“The South Korean government assesses that North Korea is able to produce most types of chemical weapons indigenously, although it must import some precursors to produce nerve agents, which it has done in the past,” the NTI said.

“At maximum capacity, North Korea is estimated to be capable of producing up to 12,000 tons [of chemical weapons]. Nerve agents such as sarin and VX are thought to be the focus of North Korean production.”

they never said they had it

They also said that Kim Jong Il was walking by 3 weeks, talking by 8 weeks, and wrote 1500 books and 6 operas in a span of three years. You believe that too?

If so, then you should also believe that the first time Kim picked up a golf club, he shot a 38-under par round on North Korea's only golf course, including 11 holes-in-one. Reports say each of his 17 bodyguards verified the record-breaking feat. He then decided to retire from the sport forever.

And then there's this little gem:

"It is reported that Kim's official biography on the North Korean state web site, which has since been taken down, claimed that Kim did not defecate."

not the same thing. to lie to up your own stock as opposed to not saying you have a weapon when you are trying to up your own stock. and i don't think they ever claimed the kill.

Why would they want to "up (their) own stock" on a banned weapon?

Syria also denied having any chemical weapons, but we know they did:

the Syrian Foreign Ministry flatly denied the American charges.

"Of course Syria has no chemical weapons. They (Americans) have been talking for years about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. But so far, the presence of these weapons has not been confirmed," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Bouthayna Shaaban.

NK is considered to have the world's third largest chemical weapons stockpile only after the US and Russia.
