Are there any rules in the Laws of War that product journalist and photographers from getting shot at?

that sucks. I thought they did because they are there to report what is going on and not choose sides etc etc.

is there really ever such a war in the future where something like this, with two armies that are civilized like the US, going to come to a point of shooting a journalist becuase they are such barbarians.....

I saw this documentary on like HBO about photographers and they had this scene in south africa back in like 1991, they had UN personal fighting i guess locals in the middle of this road and the fighting is going on and all the photographers are laying on the road with their camera's taking pictures, i thought that was pretty incredible.

i think someone once described the members of the media as "soldiers with camera's instead of a weapon, making them perhaps, the bravest of us all".

I think it gives a pretty accurate description as to what happens to them...

Hotel Rwanda has a couple interesting scenes in which the journalist (Joaquian Phoenix (sp?)) wants to leave the hotel grounds to shoot some of the violence but his supervisor won't let him. He does anyway and returns with some gruesome footage.

AKAIK there is nothing preventing a journalist from taking on fire. Kudos to those that are brave enough to venture into such theatres in an attempt to bring the story to the rest of the world. Also, embedded journalists are pretty crazy imho. Do they have to go through basic training?

I always thought it was funny to try to put rules to war.

I mean... it's WAR.

You follow the rules and get your but kicked cause the other side says "Rules...we don't need no stinkin rules".
