Hello..I need to add (1) 20GB or 40GB WD IDE HDD to my existing IBM 20 GB IDE HDD in my desktop because I am out or storage on my existing IBM IDE drive. I understand the "slaving" of the new drive to the exisiting drive.
I want to store data files and entire functional 3-D games on the new HDD. After I format and partition the new drive, what else must I do to enable the new HDD to accept data files and entire software games? Also, can I format and partition the new HDD from the DOS prompt generated by the existing HDD? Will the IBM slave to the new WD or must I also use another IBM HDD As the slave?
Thanks in advance.

:)

You set your jumpers on the drives (master for your existing drive, slave for your new drive, or vise-versa) boot into Windows, and format the drive the same way you'd format a floppy or a ZIP disk. Just look for it in "My Computer" right click on it, and select "format."

After formatting the new HDD do I need to install any software OS to then add data files and programs games?

No, your current OS on your current boot drive will simply recognize the other drive as another drive and assign it a letter.

After that, you can uninstall, then reinstall your games, and when it asks you what location you want to put it in, point it to your new drive. Create a Directory (folder) on your new drive called "Program Files" and point your games there when you install. Then create directories (folders) for your data files, then cut and paste your data files over on the secondary drive.

I have my current HDD on IDE 1 sharing with my CD-ROM (bad I know).

Will there be any problems adding another HDD to this chain?

Thanks.
