I go to vegas several times a year probably. My comments on the hotels on the strip where I have personally stayed.

Wynn - expensive, very expensive...but very nice rooms with windows that go from the ceiling to the floor. At the back end of the strip so probably not very convenient...but the fairly new mall right across the street is kind of nice. If you get a single King bed it also faces the window, which is a nice touch. Flat screen TV in the bathroom is cool too.

Bellagio - expensive and centrally located on the strip. I like their buffet.

MGM grand - reasonable rates, middle of the pack. Rooms are pretty standard, nothing special. I don't like their location at the "front" of the strip.

Mandalay Bay - nice rooms, very nice marble bathrooms. Topless pool is always cool! An even crappier location then MGM grand.

New York New York - comparable quality to MGM about. I dislike the interior of the hotel for some reason. Location crappy as well.

Excaliber - cool back in the day, kind of trashy now. Bet the rates are dirt cheap.

Circus Circus - see above.

Luxor - see above.

Imperial Palace - was probably never cool but the rates are probably one of the cheapest you casn find on the strip.

Bally's - small casino floor area but the rooms are pretty nice ever since they renovated. Room are also larger then standard rooms in almost any other hotel for some reason. This is a one of my favorite choices due to the reasonable price, large rooms, and good location.

Mirage - used to be an elite hotel, but showing its age and no more siegred and roy...sadly i hardly remember anything from when I stayed here.

Tropicana - old old hotel now, they used to have parrots on display everywhere which was pretty cool but it has been 10+ years since I've been back. Crap location!

Whenever I go I am hardly ever in my room. So paying 600 dollars a night versus 200 dollars a night for the 20 hours I will stay in my room where 18 of that is spent asleep does seem kind of a waste. That money could be better spent at the tables.

Yup, that's where I'm staying when I go there next week. I've never stayed there before but my friend did and he said it's a decent hotel. Besides, we're probably gonna be out the whole time.

I like the Flamingo cause it still has that old Las Vegas feel to it. Where the casino floor comes right up the sidewalk. I hate having to walk through manicured garden of paradise just to get to the street.

Our family stayed there summer of 06. It was nice hotel for any place outside of Vegas. The AC worked great and overall the place had an older feel, but still nice. Plus, again it was nice being in the middle of everything.

The fiance and I are staying here at the end of May, she loves that pool there. She didnt want to stay anywhere else.

with so much to do for a first time visitor, where you sleep really doesn't matter, you wont be in your room all that much, a nice room is well, nice however. They're all so close together you can check out what each one has on foot.

One time, when I was in college, we stayed up from arrival Friday afternoon (actually since we woke up at home on Friday morning) until about 5 a.m on Sunday (with a trip to the room for a shave and shower before dinner on Saturday). Thank goodness for late checkout.

After that, I swore to get at least 4 hours of sleep per sunset before the next sunrise. ;)

Man, I have not been to Vegas for pleasure in a long time. :(

The Barbary Coast is 1 block off the strip behind Caesars. If it is still there, their price was very reasonable - no extras flair, but a nice center point for the strip without the strip facing cost.

The Gold Coast (no relation) is on the strip next to Ceasars and would be similar to the Barbary.

Barbary Coast is not 1 block off the strip and it is not CaesarsCaesars...it is across the street, on the corner of Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd. And it is now called Bill's Gambling Hall & Saloon.

You are correct - my error

The Gold Coast is on the other side of Flamigo, past the Rio near the Palms.

I was thinking of Bourbon Street (which no longer exists) that was 1 block off of the strip behind the Barbary Coast & across from Caesars.
