Wanting to upgrade from XP Home to XP MCE

If I want to upgrade to MCE can I put in a MCE disc and is there an option to upgrade or do I have to back everything up?

If you search with google long enough, you'll find there is a registry key that you can modify which will allow you to do an upgrade of XP Home to XP MCE.
 
Can anyone link me to a guide on editing the registry key. I have finally received a copy of MCE and want to upgrade to it. But I can't find anything for the registry edit.
