Wanting to record from Direct Tv

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys. I am about to acquire a shuttle XPC. I want to stick this in the tv room and be able to use it to record programs from TV, mostly sports when its on. However, I am here today to ask HOW with the setup below:

SHuttle SB65G2, built in wireless (Black case)
P4 2.4c (does 2.6, but havent tried higher)
1GB dual channel Kingston HyperX PC 3200 memory (2x512)
40gig WD HD 8mb buffer 7200
Liteon 16x dvdr
PNY Personal Cinema FX5700, with remote, box, cables, manual, cd

Now, with this video card, it has the coaxial in and out. Plus s-video and rca in. Will this work just as good as a tv tuner card? Also, with whatever card I use to record, how the heck can I record, is there a speical program for this? Your help will be much appreciated!

Don't get a Shuttle XPC. Settle for a HTPC case from Silverstone or Ahanix.

To answer your question, you'll need a TV Tuner card that has onboard MPEG capabilities. The best example out there is the Hauppauge PV 150 MCE.

And yes, unless you already have XP Pro (pity if you do), you'll want XP Media Center Edition 2005 as your OS.
