well, ive have experience in playing guitar a saxophone(wood wind) and was wondering if anyone played harmonica decently around here?

how much should i be looking at to spend for a "beginner's" harmonica?

would it be easy enough to teach myself like i have with sax/guitar?

Wow. I also play the guitar and the alto sax, and was wondering how hard the harmonica was to learn.

Freaky.

Someone reply for us both. :)

the hell, I just brought an harmonica today, and was hoping to learn it...

I play violin and trombone.

anyways, I went to the music store, and my harmonica was around 25 bucks. It's a "Blues Harp" in the key of C....made of metal and wood.

the guy who sold it to me told me that that is the better quality, and the key of C is a good place to start.

You can pick it up in an hour if you know how to play another instrument and know your scales. Kind of like playing a kazoo but with more than one note :)

E and G are good scales to get.

Yeah, the C minor scale is a popular blues scale. Good for sad slow blues.

woah, crazy, i play alto and guitar too, played tenor for jazz band before the first alto graduated and i took his place... we have a harmonica laying around somewhere, not entirely sure where anymore, since we moved a few months ago, but i've looked at it many many times and thought about learning to play it...

Speaking of harmonicas, is that what is played all the time in Blues Traveler's songs? I say it's a harmonica but my friend says it can't be, that its got to be a flute or clarinet.

It's a harmonica (the hip people call it a harp). Heheheh...a flute. That would sound like Jethro Tull!
