I just like Vista better than XP. What I would like to know is would I see a noticeable performance loss with games on a 7900GT? I first was using Vista before I got this video card. But I heard there was a good performance loss with Vista so went to XP.

I think overall the consensus is the drivers are still not as optimized for Vista as they where for XP. But, it's not such a drastic difference as it was 6 months ago when Vista was released. IMHO it's down now to the grey area where only benchmarkers care (but I've always been of the school they yea I can see the difference between 60 and 30fps but not 60 and 55...)

I've noticed little difference between XP and Vista with my 8800GTS. Defenitely not something worth fretting over.

Here are some benchmarks from some AT members with both a 8800GTS and a 2900XT, performed both in Vista and XP, and as you can see, the difference is neglegible in most cases.

Am I reading this correctly? I've never seen a thread like this before.

That's because people are scared of change. In most ways Vista is superior to XP just as XP was superior to Win2K, actually probably more than that, and eventually people will come around just like they did with XP. But we've still got a number of months before the whining stops.

Could be years at this rate. Vista is just the second coming of Windows ME after all

Personally I find drivers are very good, playing Oblivion I get smoother FPS in Vista x64 then I ever did in XP,a lot of people forget Vista is still pretty new and drivers have come a long way, give it another 6 months to a year and I think even the die hard XP users will be happy and have nothing to moan about with regards to Vista drivers.

I only ever log on to my old XP PC nowadays for updates, goes to show how happy and stable my Vista x64 is for gaming and general use,XP users can bitch and moan all they like ,but they can't take the stability I have away from me ;).

The whining about Vista will stop when Vienna is released because they'll have something new to complain about. :p

Hasn't had a crash/freeze/bsod since I built my 1st Vista 64 rig.
The most stable OS I can recall from recent memory.
Not everything is fine and dandy, however.
One minor nuisance I've noticed though, perhaps the culprit is Nvidia driver.
My fav games such as FSx or FS2004, using the 8800GTS, the aircraft models look pretty crappy in Vista.
Exact same setting to setting, the 7900GTX in my other rig (x64 OS), those a/c models games look as good as it gets.
