Hey all

Currently have a ThermalTake Kandalf...massive bloody steel thing that has a net weight of 18.1kg's (39.9lbs) no handle or wheels and with everything it has in it weighs enough that it stuffs my back taking anywhere (bad back) so puts me off taking it to LANs

I'm rebuilding my comp early next year and was thinking of putting it in a new case... preferably I'd like one that's still quite spacious (probably don't need the 11 or so HD bays I have in this one even if I am using 8 of them I'll cut down)

my main criteria are

able to house large graphics cards and large motherboards
I'd love a handle or something
good cable management options would be fantastic (as I'm useless with cable clutter)
enough room for at least say 5 HDD preferably a little more
as light as possible given the above criteria
pretty would be nice but isn't absolutely essential
USB 3 front port would also be nice but not essential

price isn't too much of an issue..obviously if it's really expensive it'd want to have some awesome features I mean I payed for a damn kandalf when they were out...that was a pricey case back then :p

Any help you guys could give would be fantastic
(sorry if this is a bit badly worded it's been a very very long day and i'm a bit sedated)

I'd be looking at a Lian-Li case probably, or rather any aluminum case. Gonna be pricier, but will be lighter and come with all the bells and whistles.

Hey thanx for the response :)

Yeah aluminium cases are certainly more appealing than steel given the weight difference though a handle as well or similar would still be fantastic.

I was considering Lian Li given their reputation for quality but was hoping to look at some other brands as well since you do pay a decent bit extra for the name. Though it's certainly a consideration...the towers are between $330-$450 over here (Aus) depending on which model you go for...450 is certainly above what I was looking to spend...but still I'd consider it depending on my eventual budget and what the trade off's would be of going for a cheaper case

Ah, down under? Too bad. Newegg has the Lian Li PC-7FNW for $120 shipped ($110+10). Check AU sites because it may be cheaper than you expect. It is a newer design with a slightly rounded face (wish I had one, my Lian Li sometimes cuts my knee since it is under my desk). It has a 140mm intake with filter, bottom mounted PSU, 8 slots (for those odd X58 Tri-SLI boards with a bottom PCIe x16 slot), HDD trays that support SSDs and of course is all aluminum. It is also rather compact for being an ATX mid tower.

Here's a picture of my wife's rig when I was building it. I used a Lian Li PC-60FNW, which is AFAIK the same thing except for different front grill.

While totally spacious, the 800D is far from light. I just had one delivered today. This thing is heavy! And I haven't even installed a thing in it yet, and man is it heavy :)

Compared to the HAF 932 it's replacing I can really notice the weight difference.
