Wanting to build the cheapest complete PC

What is the cheapest (money wise) complete PC that I can build. Im trying to build one for myself for messing with. I don't want to buy a pre-built PC. You don't have to include an OS.

Please help. Im having a hard time with this (really I dont know why).

What performance level are you looking at? I mean, you can get older used hardware pretty cheap, if you only need something like a P3 or AMD Duron/low-grade Athlon in terms of CPU.

If you want newer hardware, there are plenty of "How can I build a PC for <insert ridiculously low amount of money>?" threads; please search.

Tell us a little more about your needs. Do you have a Fry's where you live. They run mobo/CPU combos that are hard to beat. That would be a good starting point.

The secret to a really cheap system is rebates and refurb/used parts. If you can deal with the time delay in getting your money back playing the rebate game, you can build a very nice system for low bucks. I'm still using Socket-A with a Sempron for my main system. I've found that Newegg's refurbished mobos can help knock the cost down if you're willing to scrounge some of the accys if needed.

Well for performance im looking for useable levels. Im just going to be
working on documents and going online with it.

I have no Fry's nearby.

Im not big on rebates especially because by the time I get the money
back its not even an issue anymore.

Should I just hit up the Newegg refurb and do it like that?
