Ok, so to cut a very long story (with the moral being NEVER buy a TV from REX Appliances) I should be getting a check for a little over $400 back for a Samsung HD CRT set that died under warranty. I'm also getting $500 back for my security deposit on my old apartment. So I have a ballpark figure of $900 to put towards a replacement for the TV that died (which I'd like to get soon as the only TV in my place right now is a half dead 24" SD CRT). I've found the Samsung LN32A550 to be a very nice compromise on size/quality and it falls right into the price range I'm looking at. My current viewing distance is only about 5'2" (moved into a small 1 BR apartment and the living room seriously has some limitations) but I could do some rearranging to maybe stretch it out to 6 feet. Is this about the best set that can be had in this ballpark or if there is something nicer within lets say $100 (anything more would be begging the parents for the difference and I'd rather not do that). Mind you the Ph.D is only a few years away so once my actual cashflow kicks in, I'd like whatever set I get now to get some PC monitor duty later.

Prefers quality over quantity
Use as a PC monitor at some point would be nice
