Wanting a Dell 2405 FP

I currently have 2 Viewsonic VX924 19" LCDs on a 6800 Ultra. If I got rid of one, would I be able to replace it with the 2405?

Or does that LCD need both of the DVI ports?

There is no screen that I know of that requires more than one DVI port. I'm guessing you meant dual-link DVI, which isn't necessary for the resolution of the 2405FPW. Dual-link is actually just a DVI port that has a different TDMS transmitter that can pass a higher resolution.

Actually, not quite 🙂 Dual-link DVI uses twin TMDS transmitters, not "different TDMS" 😉 But true, dual-link DVI does not equal using two DVI ports. It's one port with (almost) twice the bandwidth; your card must be made to provide that if needed.

[/pedant]

Now, the 2405W uses your plain normal single-link DVI, so yes, you can proceed as planned.

Although, he is trying to run a 2405FPW on an nVidia card 😉
