I had installed a fresh install of XP Proon my C drive - and to start it would boot all the way into the OS - just what I wanted. After a spell it would stop at the login screen, and I found no fix until this.

Open User Accounts in Control Panel. If there is a third account other than admin and guest, delete it. Easy fix, and it worked.

I was about ready to try TweakUI, but I had to wonder what had changed. After all, it had only been three days since the install.

I still do not know why it changed, but I am glad that it is back to the way it was. As for installing TweakUI, I may later anyway, but I am a minimalist at heart (as far as my OS is, anyway).

If you deleted the user account installed by the .NET framework security update, things may break.

A more correct way would have been to Start-->run-->type: control userpasswords2 unceck "users must enter a username and password to use this computer"

Hit apply, and type in the username and password you will use to login.
