It would be nice to see a test of different modern TV's and see how well they would fare as monitors. I know they're not suitable for office work, but casual surfing + gaming/multimedia usage would be nice.

LCD is usually better than plasma in this regard, but you would be missing out on Plasma's smooth motion. If no surfing/text, then go with plasma. IMHO.

A digital HDMI/DVI port is a must, obviously.

What exactly should the test compare between TVs though?

Just take a couple of different LED/LCDs and plasma TV's and test for light web/office use + movie and gaming (including latency).

I'm running a 52 inch Samsung DLP TV through a Visiontek HDPC card. I forget exactly which resolution, but I think I have set to 1280x720x32 at 60hz. I have an adapter running DVI to HDMI. Runs good for me, stream Netflix, run games and play music. Video card is a bit lacking, I just got Star Craft 2 and it gets choppy at times, but the TV works great. I have my HTPC running through my stereo as well. I just wish I could get better sound quality out of it.....

How is an LCD better than a plasma in any regard? I've used both and use a 50" plasma as a computer monitor and do productivity on it all the time. There are never any issues so I'm curious what you're basing your assumption on.
