Unfortunately, silver isn't the popular color, but I don't care for a big black lump in my personal space either. Try contacting SIlverstone directly to see if they can point you to one... Other than that, you'll have to see if one of the shops that carry the black one can special-order you a silver one.

thanks. i'll have to send an email to ss.

For General Questions/Sales: usasales@silverstonetek.com

at first glance, i read that as "useless@silverstonetek.com"
while i'm at it, i'll let them know the asking price is just too much. the best price i've seen is $145 at performance-pcs.com, newegg is asking $160. frankly, there isn't $145 worth of box there.

Doesn't Lian-Li have a nice mini-ATX like that in silver? Ironic that "Silver"stone can't give you the silver version.

Aluminum cases are generally on the high side and then on top of that a case that has a smaller potential market and the price goes up even more. Just the way the market works.

manufacturers and resellers cite the higher cost of aluminum compared to cheap crap-o steel. however, they don't mention aluminum is also much cheaper to work with.

smaller boxes are, as far as i can tell, a colossal rip-off. less materials, less work, less shipping, and double the price. silverstone's margins on the sugo series must be enormous. cost to retailers is what, $100? for a small, chinese-made, steel-bodied and aluminum trimmed box with no electronics or extras of any kind. at this price, i'd like to see the imon receiver included (not the useless VFD display that adds $50 to a case, but the internal IR eye and usb plug). they didn't even bother to trim around the front panel connectors - open the nicely done flap, and you're staring at a strip of grey dipped steel

the lian-li A05N is a nice alternative, but much bigger. they also stick it to you - the case does not include matching cd drive bezels ($13) and the buttons are extremely cheap.

It's all about volume. Manufacturers know that "enthusiast" micro ATX cases don't sell as well as their mid-tower ATX brethren. Besides the actuall cost of materials and manufacturing, there is tooling and R&D costs. Fewer units moved means more cost to spread out per unit. Tooling for stamping out a single piece of metal or molding a single piece of plastic can cost $5k-15k. Alternately have everything machined, but that really does increase manufacturing costs quite a bit.

valid point, but:

at $150 retail, silverstone's sugo sg03/4 is $20 more than antec's mini p180, which has a great deal more manufacturing involved. it is $50 more than lian li's comparable products, which are all aluminum. both competitors feature a much higher degree of fit and finish.

i'm no stranger to silverstone's products, including wobbly power buttons, bogus cd drive bezels, 4 (!) front panel usb plugs, and iffy internal designs. they tend to be less quirky than some other comparable brands (different for the sake of being different). the sugo sg04 really appeals to me in aesthetics and function, but this box belongs the $99 price point at very most. that extra 50% is a slap in the face.

If you don't think it is worth the asking price then don't buy it. If you end up buying it, you will have either found a good deal or finally decided it really was worth the price. I'm not sure where you're going with your "too expensive" assertions. If you find value in the aesthetics and function that no other case/brand can match, then isn't it worth the extra money?

Antec does a lot more volume than Silverstone and are found at a lot more retailers. Lian Li has their own factory while Silverstone does not.
