Wanted: non-glare laptop

The old laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 "Pro Turbo" is starting to show its age.

I've got my eye on a new i5 with a ATI Mobility HD 5650 but it does not seem to be offered with a matte screen??

For a while there it seemed like you could find laptops either way but lately matte screens are getting hard to find.

Personally I can't stand the glossy screens with names like "Clearview", "colorview", "TrueLife", "CineCrystal", "Brightview", etc. One website (written in engrish) called them "glare-type" screens.

Whats a guy hafta do these days to find a matte screen option?

Not sure about the consumer lines, but business grade notebooks all have matte screens or options for matte.

The majority of the systems sold in brick and mortars are glossy screens. As others have pointed out most business lines have matte screens either as defaults or options.

Added to the list of Acer and Lenovo, also add Apple. The 15 and 17" MacBook Pros are sold with matte screens optional.

Also, matte screens are more prevalent in 4:3 LCDs rather than 16:9 wide screens.

well i have the same problem any many other potential cusotmers probably true. matte is nowadays reserved for buisness model which in turn rarley have any dedicated graphics or if they do so the don't have an hdmi out, imho simple that you also have to buy the docking station. -> more money.
display port is acceptable now because adapters to hdmi are getting cheaper. With the arrandales i think about going for igp only. don't plan to play games anyway except old ones.🙂

but the glossy hype is annyoing especially with laptops...
