I've had that joystick for a while now. I like it, I use it for all my flying games IL-2, IL-2 Forgotten Battles, BF2 w/Desert Combat mod. It seems to hold up well and doesn't loose it's tension. The throttle is still firm.
I have the that logitech joystick and it makes flying planes in BF1942 a breeze. Just make sure you use the USB port cuz the gameports cause many issues...I saw the Logiteck Extreme Digital 3D at target for $20 (w/ twist action).
Hands down get on ebay and buy a Saitek Cyborg3D (10-15$)... they adjust like 50 million different ways, just check their website. Also practically indetructable. Mine has outlived more than 5 mice... ive had it since 99 and it has never left that space right next to my right speaker. Go give'm a look.

Cool! BF1942 with Desert Combat is why I'm getting one! I just can't seem to do much in a chopper but go up, spin around, and either bail or crash. 🙂
Simple fix, had similar problem with only going up in the helo. Change the throttle to a keyboard key or the two buttons at the base of the joystick if you like, both + and - (negative) flight. This way you'll be able to hover.
There is a site, don't remember now, but they give you the basics of how to fly a helo. Best is to play an offline game, choose a map with a helo and practice a lot there. You'll get the feel for it and then become one of the many helo campers in a live game.
