I am currently unsatisfied with my systems performance running Unreal Tournament 2004 online. Running benchmarks via UMark 2004, (regardless of the detail selection) the difference between 640x480 and 1600x1200 is only 1 FPS! Surely, my Athlon XP 2800 is holding back my 9800 Pro. So, I?ve been considering upgrading to an Athlon 64 3000 to increase performance; hopefully (and depending on the results), I won?t have to upgrade the graphics card as well.
To all the 9800 pro users who play UT2004 on processors greater than mine, (1) what is your FPS when using (UMARK) benchmarks (on high detail), and/or (2) when you play online and type ?stat fps?, what range does your FPS tend to be (w/high detail)? This will help me understand what this card can (and cannot) do, and what I might reasonably expect with a CPU upgrade.
[P.S. in case your wondering, my UMARK benchmark?s avg FPS on ?High Image Quality? is aprox 33, and on ?High Performance? is about 49. When I watch the FPS when I play online (this is where it counts!!), the game generally runs @ 25 fps, +/- 10 depending on the action. I have 512MB RAM, but upgrading to 1G in 2 days
