nice list, but take out the zalman and get a tuniq tower if it fits in your case. I have a zalman9700 and it's nice, but the tuniq cools much better and is only 54.99 at newegg.

I was going to suggest the same thing.

I kept going back and forth between the thermaltake ultra 120 extreme and the tuniq tower on my new build, but the added installation/lapping hassles plus the $90 cost after fan(s) were added for the extreme pushed me towards the tuniq. Besides, I saved a ton on ram, $35 here on the cpu cooler, $70 by buying an e6750 now vs a Q6600 or e6850 in a couple of weeks, another 40 on the ip35 pro instead of dq6. All that adds up to a nice penryn quad core in my future!

No RAID? Then check out Abit's IP35-E...only $108 and is stable up to 488MHz FSB. Board runs cool and quiet.

My opinon:
1. I'd get RAID i.e. double up the SATA drives of your choice, I'd get Seagate Perpendicular personally
2. If you OC, better be careful with 2x2gb will bottleneck ya. 2x1gb will be better for OC
3. for the price of Zalman I would get Tuniq tower
4. rest is pretty cool.

can i tweek your build slightly?

swap the board for a gigabyte P35-DQ6 better stability when you overclock.

Swap the hard drives for 2x500gig WD Caviar, and go RAID. You'll notice a difference in loading windows, and other appilcations.

Swap the Heat sink for a Tuniq Tower, or a Thermalright Ultra120. Dont get the extreme unless you intend to LAP it, or you bought one prelapped.

Meh, i havent seen a difference between 2gb and 4gb ram yet. Windows cant even use 100% 4gb of ram i used to throw at it.

PSU: i would get the antec Quattro 850W over at provantage.com

After seeing how convex my TR U120 extreme was last night, I am heading over to my local auto store for some more sandpaper. :D

Thank you all for your suggestions, just wanted to clarify why I'm not going RAID. I will be using a 74GB raptor for the OS but disk I/O is unimportant to me. I'm going to use the 750gb hard drive for data storage so I don't want to get 2 smaller hard drives in raid 0 and risk the potential problem there. 500GB is too small for me, 750 was perfect for my needs and was actually considering getting 2 750GB in raid 1, might in the future. I wanted to go with the zalman because I felt more at ease with how it secures and its weight as I move my computer around a lot. Also, I thought anything bigger than the corsair 620 (underrated i think) was overkill as I am not running sli/crossfire. Going to run xp and vista 64bit OS's so the 4GB will come in hand, this program I run will put them to very good use, could use as much 8GB honestly. I'll try this stuff out, could always upgrade and pass along old parts to friends.

Thanks guys!

p.s. rumor has it that ncixus.com has G0 quads, keeping fingers crossed
