Any of you that have had an I/O Magic Rebate in the past know that they are dog slow. I personally made four complaints to the FCC on four of my items that I/O Magic said were "lost". Good thing I had copies. Anyway, if you call them now, they put the damn thing in the mail the next day! Sounds like someone got spanked by the FCC and this was their settlement. Their number is (800) 607-7466.

How about Western Digital? I bought the Compusa 45Gb on Oct. 9 and sent it the next day and still no $60 and $30 checks yet. What should I do?

That's odd because I have always gotten western digital rebates in a very timely manner...

Uhhh, do you mean the FTC? The FCC is the Federal Communications Commission and doesn't have any jurisdiction over business practices. The Federal Trade Commission, however, handles this stuff all the time.

Thanks, anyways.

They coudn't find my rebate from back in 1999. They make tons of excuses...learned my lesson. I am never buying an I/O Magic product again and I let them know that. :)

I have similar experiences with Beyond.com, so it seems that many companies conveniently lost the rebate records routinely. Even though I have saved my record, I've decided it's not worth the hazzle following up on it. I think these companies are banking on people like me. One thing I know, though, I'll never buy from Beyond.

I went to their website and filled out a form about rebates and I got a e-mail confirmation a couple of days later and then got my check about a week later. This was for a rebate that I was supposed to get about 6 months ago.

I/O Magic Rebate Inquiry Form

Bought my product in June, and I called 2 months ago about it. They said "we will send it out today, and you should have it in 5 working days" -- still waiting on that one :frown:

Anytime you do rebates it's importatant to keep good records : Copies of everthing, phone numbers, and some type of filing system to record dates of mailings and when due. I've had problems with I/O Magic before, but I've gotten all rebates after much persistence including one for the Aureal Vortex SQ1500 sound card. This one was especially difficult since the company filed for bankruptcy back in April. To my surprise after some complaints I/O Magic payed! I guess this company is the vulture preying on the carcasses of all these small companies. And now 3dfx has been eaten by Nvidia which unfortunately will hurt prices in the long run with less competition.
