I've setup a peer-to-peer setup w/ two 802.11b clients successfully. But, I want to setup a wireless network where I don't have to have one computer running all the time. I tried to use a Orinoco AP connected to my cable modem, it wouldn't work, no matter how hard I tried. I called Comcast and they just denied me, saying it's not their problem, they don't support networking. When I called Orinoco, they said they were having problems with Comcast trying to block all wireless equipment. He then said to try to "trick" Comcast by doing this: try using a regular router connected to my cable modem, then connect the wireless AP to the router. He said that Comcast would support some wired networking, but is too paranoid to help setup a wireless one.

Can anyone offer some advice and experience?

Your Internet service has to be Authenticated. WAP can not do it, as oppose to a regular Router that can.

To Orinoco people told you what to do!

Buy a Regular Router (some of them are on sale for less then $40 this week).

Connect the Cable Modem to the WAN input, and the Orinoco to a regular port on the Router.

BTW: Asking Cable provider to deliver signal without authentication, is like asking a rental car agency to provide a car that does not have some sort of a key. It is their right to protect themselves.
