want to use standard headset on a walkie-talkie

i want to use a standard headset on a motorola walkie-talkie i have. the plug fits fine, but the earpiece functions as the microphone! some research turned up the fact that many walkie-talkies reverse the speaker/mic hookups. (why??????)

anyone know where i can get an adapter to REVERSE THE POLARITY
