The Shuttle has a capture card w/ a camera attached to it, and we'll need to demo this out in the field.

So instead of lugging around a LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse w/ the Shuttle... I wanted to remote control it from my laptop. The laptop has a program I also need to access so I wanted to switch between that and the Shuttle at will. I know a standard KVM switch won't work.

Any way to make this work?

Shuttle has XP Pro... the laptops that will be used have a variety of OS's... all MS based (98, 2000, XP Home & Pro).

I'm trying Ultr@VNC right now and seems to work okay... but I'd like some sort of hardware solution!

Couldn't you use a crossover cable and remote desktop into the shuttle. I'm assuming both are using xp. Just make sure they're on the same subnet with the crossover cable.
