guys, dont argue. it's my fault i wasnt completely clear on this matter.
i am into photoshop and video editing, but i can do those on my current CPU as well, even if it takes a few minutes longer than it could have on a better CPU.
games, however, are something that i will be gimped with soon (already am a little) so i know that the main reason for the upgrade is games, but i also do photoshop and video editing.

im gonna make a bump for this to see if we can end this discussion with a high note :p

so nirvana, do you, like me, think that a i7 4770 is a more future proof CPU than the i54670 because of the hyperthreading issue?

anyone else agrees or disagrees?

Hi

Get the i7 for a future proof and faster cpu from all aspects... (8 cores vs 4 on the i5)

If you are concerned about budget, then get the AMD 8350.. Multithreaded is the way to go for gaming and it's 8 physical cores would be plenty fast..

For an even smaller budget envelop, get the Fx 6300* which is a 6 core processor. Point to note: game developers can only use 6 cores out of that 8 core jaguar.. 2 will be reserved for other OS tasks..

*once your 6850 starts to show it's age in 6-8 months as games based on new Ps4 XB one are launched; you can then build a new pc altogether with all the faster components.

Well, he said he wants it for gaming too because "he's a heavy gamer", plus that article is not just focused on gaming, it has up to 12 non gaming tests that is pretty much all you need to know to have an idea of how good it'll be in photoshop and flash work.

Too bad that you don't read the whole article.

I pass.

I don't need to comment.

OP, the 4770 is you're best choice. Especially if you cannot find the Xeons in your country.

thank you both for all your advices. i have enough budget for the i7 4770 and im gonna go for it.

what?! when my 6870 show its age i wanna just replace the GPU (to a 7850, or something) and PSU (if i must). why would i need to upgrade AGAIN??
i am going for a CPU that should last me years. that's the point.
i bought my existing Q6600 and it held for 5 years or even more. that's what i expect from my i7 4770.
am i wrong with my expectations?!

videogames101 - thanks for the chart :) just to reassure my decision :p
