Want to upgrade my CPU, what is the fastest my mobo can handle?

I have a Biostar m7viw motherboard, which uses the VIA KT266A / VT8235 chipset. I currently have an Athlon XP 1800+ but I would like to upgrade to the fastest CPU my motherboard can support (no overclocking please).

I see Newegg has some 2600+'s for sale but they are all Barton's which are 333mhz and I dont think my motherboard supports them. Therefore, if i wanted to buy from Newegg, the fastest I could get would be the 2400+ Thoroughbred right?

If I did get a new CPU, I could use the same heatsink and fan that came with my retail 1800+ right?

Apparently up to 2.6GHz, which I assume means the 2600+ rating, not actual 2.6GHz. Since it's limited to a 133MHz bus, that would be the 2.13GHz Thoroughbred core. But they don't seem to have any, though you could go to other dealers.

If you buy the Retail Boxed processor, you get the heatsink and fan, and it only costs a few dollars more. The heatsink you have for your old processor may not be capable of dissipating the heat from the new processor, since its considerably faster.

Lord Evermore has you covered on a cpu upgrade(266fsb procs) but I'd sell your working setup and invest in a newer(nForce2) setup(mobo/proc/hsf/ram) if I were you..
