Want to try using a Peltier

I having a 900Mhz T-Bird and an Alpha7HO heatsink on my computer right now, and I would like to get a peltier so I can overclock my CPU. Are they worth giving a shot, or am I just endangering my equipment? 3dfxcool has one here for $36 and it says it is made for my heatsink. Would this be a good way to go? How does everything attach? Would I use some kind of adhesive thermal compound between the unit and the heatsink/fan itself? How does everything attach?
thanks,

For a TBird you need at least an 80 watt peltier for it to make any difference.
So heat of CPU(40watts) + heat of pelt(80watts) = 120watts
You have to find a way to dissipate that heat (a standard heatsink or even a fop/alpha can't do that)

You get into the bigger peltiers (that size and bigger) and you NEED water cooling. In fact the best idea is to start off with water cooling, before you play with peltiers (for tbirds that is).

That can run ya $200 though.

And you have to seal the whole thing up too! I tried just the artic, heatsink and then covered the whole thing with this blue foam stuff I found at a comp show. Then after a few hours of runtime, Bam! all went dead. I opend up the case and found condensation under the all the foam. It formed under the duron, in the square hole of the socket (the part where you plug the chip into). Shorted my chip (may the duron 800 Rest In Peace). My second attempt was to put everything in like before and spray the entire interiror with a silicon water proofer. This time the condensation killed my motherboard, lasted much longer (had five weeks no problems, running 24/7) Then all went dead. THis time, condensation formed on the back of the motherboard. All still worked after it dried out. (BTW I had a 75w peliter). I would read up on peliter cooling much more than just here at this forum... You have the potential to kill your system. I read stuff form overclockers.com.

the materials you use to stop condensation are everything. i bought a leufkins kit for my p3 600 and have been using it for over three months. the kits(75 watt) costs about 10.00 more than the peltier alone. i live in Miami Florida as well. the only modifcation i've made to the kit was to replace the sorry aluminum cold plate with a 5/16 inch copper one. i use a alpha heatsink. this is the only safe way i've found to keep my processor just below room temps.

P.S. i paid a little less by buying it straight from leufkins. $32.00
