Just keep looking for a huge red "Rudy's" attached to a gas station and you found your spot.

Are you kidding me? And you live in Austin too?

the one on 183 is pretty good for fast food barbecue.

I was taking into account that I don't know any on or near I-40 and it is pretty safe bet for a chain that could be found pretty easily.

If he had been passing through Austin, I would have referred him to Uncle Billy's so that he could get some microbrew along with some pretty good BBQ.

Great, now she's gonna think Amarillo is representative of Texas

why did you change it to "she"? Fuzzy is a guy.

I want to go to Texas, btw.

Wow, I have been under that assumption for a long time. I don't even remember what made me think that in the first place.

Probably the name and avatar. Together they scream "teenage girl".

Of course, I should already know that there are no real girls on the internets. :p

"Texas BBQ" means beef.. like in brisket and ribs (opposed to Pork in carolinas).

Rudys has brisket.. and my favorite brisket ever, in fact

Ive had barbecue in cooper, llano, lockhart, etc... all of the most lauded joints in print and on tv, and rudys is king

Just about any town will have a local popular joint for bbq... just stop and talk to a few people and go where they tell you to go. don't judge the place unless you've eaten there.... many very good bbq places look like sh!tholes.

Texas is a shitty state regardless of where you sample it. Save for Austin, which does have a couple redeeming qualities. :p

I think you got that wrong. Texas is a great state except for the shitty part known as Austin.

You both got that wrong. Texas is a state, yet it is all shitty.

Have you ever been to TX, or are you basing all this on your need to bash what is popular to bash?

There's also a Salt Lick in Austin, although everyone I know who has been there says it's not as good as the one in Driftwood.

not to say salt lick is bad (because its not - at all), but the atmosphere there (driftwood) is better than the food. its out in the hilly rustic countryside, and the place is BYOB... and theres usually live music in the outdoor patio

funny enough, the best salt lick ive eaten was always catered from the austin restaurant

Is that why everyone I know in Houston wishes they lived in Austin? Do all the high tech companies build offices in Austin because it sucks or because it's a city that people want to live in?

Most of the high tech companies build offices in the metroplex actually. Austin pales in comparison which is why I've had a hard time finding a comparable job there to relocate.

They don't call it the Platinum Corridor for nothing.

Yes I have. I've probably driven more miles in that state than in any other except maybe Montana. And I'd say the same thing about Montana east of Missoula.

Well, of course it sucks if all you do is drive through. That's a boring 10 hrs.
