MS is starting the 360 Update Preview Program today. Start here to get registered with the MS Connect site and then you'll take a brief "Xbox LIVE Update Preview Sign Up" survey about your 360 console (you'll need your serial# and console ID). Major Nelson notes:

# We?re looking for multiple thousands of participants, so your chances of making it in are good
# This opportunity is open to all Xbox LIVE Members in regions where Xbox LIVE is available.
# Just completing the survey does not automatically get you access to the Preview Program. We?ll be making final selections from the completed surveys and send you an email if you are selected.
# While both box LIVE Gold and Silver members can sign up, Priority will be given to Gold members in the selection process.

You'll know in about a week if you're accepted or not.

I don't really see anything that makes me super excited to try it out as soon as possible. I'll just wait until it actually releases in a few weeks.

Yeah, I'm going to have to wait until I get home later tonight to sign up.

You can get your Console ID and Serial # via the Xbox live support page - assuming you registered your console and sent it in at least once for a repair (which is a high probability).

Serial number gets listed under your console listing, and your console ID can be had if you go to the license transfer tool.

Sweet!

Managing your queue from the console is great news. I love the Netflix streaming on the 360, it's part of the reason that we now have two at my house.

No, the update will apply to everyone and there are other features in the upcoming update that apply to things outside of Netflix.

Kotaku also says that it was sent to game writers first. When they had the preview for the initial NXE launch they did it in waves, so maybe that's what they're doing here and the media was the first wave.

Possibly. Major Nelson and the other Xbox Live guys keep saying that you'll receive notification at the end of the week if you were accepted in the preview. But the media preview was originally supposed to launch on Monday and didn't get released until today. So, there's a good probability that the preview out to the public won't come until next week.

According to Engadget the preview is live. Anyone here that signed up have access yet? I'm at work and can't check.

I won't be able to check until I get home as well but Kotaku has some videos up of them checking out the update.

Avatar Marketplace Hands-On

Holy eff, that dude just spent like 5 bucks on shit all! Insane. Completely worthless stuff too, doesn't even do anything. I'm hoping those Avatar Awards from games give you free stuff at least.

agreed.... i will not be buying anything off the marketplace but im sure there will be millions who do. Netflix update will be more that worth this whole upgrade though. (smooth streaming, hd logos, browse content from the xbox and even the parties)

I'm only interested in the Xbox360 digital downloads section.

The ads on the screen piss me off, though. I'm paying for goddamn Gold, I shouldn't have to see ads. :|

I thought I did, but it just a stupid Windows 7 RTM announcement. :(

I am really anxious to try out the new Netflix features. Being able to add to my instant queue from the console is like a dream come true.

I haven't gotten an email but on my "connect dashboard" it says I"m in.

Sign in to Microsoft Connect, go into your dashboard, click on "Xbox Live Update Preview" link and if the next page says "Welcome to the Xbox LIVE Preview on Connect! Congratulations! You?ve been accepted to the 2009 Xbox LIVE Update Preview. Welcome, and we are glad that you are on board!" you are in. I haven't received the system update yet but at least I know Im in it. Just check that site out and see if you are in.

Nice find! I see the same thing. Hopefully that is indeed an indicator that we've been accepted. The preview probably won't be available until the emails actually go out. It even says so on that page:

When will you receive the update?
We are working on the final touches for the update. You will receive a notification by email when the update is available.

EDIT: Apparently the first wave of emails has started to go out.
