Want to take GF to San Diego Zoo...

I'm living in Winnipeg, MB, Canada so this would be quite the trip. It might be nice to drive from Winnipeg to Vancouver, then take the coast right to San Diego.

Now from what I've seen on the San Diego Zoo website, I see the Zoo is located in Balboa Park. I figure since we are there, we might as well explore the whole park as well.

The website lists some things:

1. Best Value Admission with Guided Bus Tour and Skyfari aerial tram ride - $32.00

2. Two-Park Ticket (Best-Value Zoo admission and Wild Animal Park general admission to use within 5 days from day of purchase) - $52.65

3. Best of Balboa Park: Entrance to 13 of the Park's finest attractions, plus Best Value Admission to the San Diego Zoo - $55

Basically, I'd like to see the Park, Zoo and Wild Animal Park.

Would the best option be to get #3, then take a trip to the Wild Animal Park after? I think it's a little strange they don't have a package that includes all 3 things.

Make it a Zoo trip and stop by the Washington Park Zoo here in Portland, Oregon, on your way down.

hmmm, i would go with option #2, unless i knew more in detail what #3 had. i hope your splitting the trips up, like 1 day zoo, the next day wild animal, because they're kind of distance away from each other (like a 45 min. drive). ive been to both, and im a san diego resident, so any questions shoot. balboa park is neat, but for those couple of extra bucks, im wondering whats being offered. because with option #3, you only get zoo and no wild animal park, at least thats what it looks like to me.

If you're going to drive down the Pacific coast, stop in Monterey and go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium... Great place!!

You going to take like two weeks or more for this trip? I'd think you would need at least two.

This will most definitely be a multi-day adventure

Will it take more than a day to see everything at the Zoo? How about the Animal Park?

I didn't really know anything other than this was a huge zoo, so I was basically thinking it would take 2 days in the Zoo and 2 days in the Animal Park. Then at least a day in Balboa Park.

I figured the trip would be about 5 or 6 days in San Diego.

This Site lists the 13 attractions in Balboa Park. As part of the $55 combo package, it is valid for only 3 days.

I think it might be best to get the 2 park pass for $52.65 which is valid for 5 days, then just pay for whatever things we want to see in Balboa Park.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a really nice aquarium. Probably better than the zoo, actually.

Don't forget Sea World...
You can easily do the WAP in a day.
If ya laz around the park and Zoo in two.
Sea world in one.
take a side trip to old town and seaport village.
And if you're adventuresome the trolley to mexico... I live nearby but won't go to TJ.
Oh BTW you can catch a good minor league baseball game if the Padres are in town.
And Scripps Aquarium is good to..

I live right by the Wild Animal Park in Escondido, but ive got passes for the zoo. The park itself is nice. Lots of things to do....though, both parks are kind of 1 day things. I dunno though, ive been to both like 20 times...

Shoot me a pm, pretty sure i have an extra buy 1 get 1 free thing for the zoo.

yeah, it takes about a day for each one. also, like someone else mentioned, sea world isnt bad either. they put on a pretty good show (recommend dolphin show). ill look over that site tonight and see what its exactly offering.

Wild Animal Park is way better than the zoo. There's more of a chance for the lions to bust out and eat someone.
