Want to stop using ATI Tool - will Catalyst 7.8 drivers tell me if card is too hot?

I was using ATITool for my x1900 XTX for about a year now, basically just to raise the fan speed whenever card got too hot, above 80 degrees F.

But I started to experience performance glitches with the Cat. 7 series which, I recently, discovered, disappeared completely when I uninstalled ATITool (which btw I never used for overclocking, so I know that had nothing to do with it acting up.)

Essentially what I need right now is to know if I'll be informed by the Cat. drivers if card runs too hot or is there another utility to just keep track, and maybe control, video card fan speed, or temp, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance:)

You can't adjust the fan speed in the Catalyst drivers, from what I know. I can't in 7.9 with my 2900XT.

You could try Rivatuner or ATI Tray Tools though.

If you use Vista x64 the only option is Rivatuner really.

You can monitor the temp with the control center but it won't alert you. The fan speed is automatically set in the drivers to spool up at specific temperatures so there is no risk of overheating.

I liked ati tool b/c it helped me to "see" where the fan speeds spooled up. I had some probs too once cat 7.8 installed, so now I just use CCC and have been fine.

Rivatuner will let you see where the fan spools up and you can set it to a specific % if you prefer.
