I'm only 5'5 120 lbs. I have a little definition, but not much. I want to gain as much muscle as possible. I want to define my abs also but I would think this would require running along with sit ups and other exercises. Basically, my question is can I tone my whole body without running (loosing weight)?

You can tone and add only a little mass by using much higher repetitions with smaller weights. Think about construction workers, ever seen one that looked like Arnold S? Nope (unless they are on steroids). They get in great shape because of the repeated lifting of smaller weights.

that all depends. If what little weight you have right now is mostly fat, then yes you will have to take a hit in order to tone up. However if you simply have a small frame and not much fat on you, whatever fat you lose will be replaced by muscle that actually weighs more.

Measure your body fat percentage to get a better idea.

yes!! when you work out you get ride of your fat, and loose weight, but by gaining muscle, you gain weight, since muscle weighs more than fat and you might loose weight to begin but gain weight later on

edit: i hate being a slow typer on a slow connection!!!
