Want to spend ~$125-150 MAX on a video card...

It's not for me, but for a co-worker.... he has an older Soyo K7VME-2AA2 motherboard, it's an Athlon XP motherboard. I am not sure if some AGP card won't work on it, but given the voltage and stuff, (things I'm not entirely familiar with), can you give me a few suggestions as to the best options for his PC, that will work with his motherboard?

Thanks again!

Is he planning on gaming? What's he going to use it for?

If it's for gaming, I highly suggest a Radeon 9800 Pro which can be had for around that price now at Newegg. If you're simply looking for 2d stuff, any cheap video card should work.

I just checked the specs on that motherboard and it supports 4x AGP so any AGP card will work.

Isn't voltage a consideration though? I thought that some slots had different voltages than others... *shrug*

And the 9800 Pro runs into the almost $200 range.. :

Cheaper is better, he's just playing simple games like Civilization 3, and some kids games for his daughter.

I would go looking for a 4x AGP card. Perhaps an older ATI Radeon, such as the 9500. You should be able to pick one up @ newegg in his price range.

You can put any AGP card in there that states it is 4X/8X.

The card will adjust to the voltage automatically.

$129.00 for a 9800 Pro is the best bang for the buck for budget gaming. It still performs very well for its age.

A 9500 Pro is a little weak for gaming now.
