Want to set up a wireless network to play Xbox live

Here, I'll explain my situation. I currently have a cable modem downstairs, and the XBOX upstairs. I have the XBOX live starter kit, and if my parents said my grades were good, which they are, then they'll buy me the router setup. Well, enough of the back story. I want to play XBOX live. Since my XBOX is upstairs, and my cable modem is downstairs, my options are limited. I know I need a wireless router, but what else do I need? Also, I want my computer downstairs to be able to run on the normal connection, not the wireless connection, if ya know what i mean. Thanks a lot..
