Howdy everyone....

Well, I bit the bullet today and bought hardware for a home server. I got the MSI K7T266 Pro2 KT266A along with a Duron 900MHz. I remember a while back when the KT133A was the hot thing, that people were having issues running their 200MHz processors at 266MHz, even with lowering the multipliers down to an equivelant. There was an article at Anandtech (click here to read) talking about this issue, and that the issue was with the default multiplier and that it would boot at the default multiplier witht he faster bus, and not even reach the bios where it is set down.

I am very curious as to how this works with the new batch of KT266A boards. My intention of getting the cheap Duron is that while it isn't an XP, it'd be quite fun to overclock and play with (got the Alpha 8045 to cool it). So anyone out there play with something like this? Any helpful hints or suggestions?

Thanx in advance,
Jazzman

Did it this past weekend on a Soyo Dragon. Just unlocked, upped voltage and fsb. No problem whatsoever. Worked flawlessly first try. Left the Duron 750 running @ 933 (133 X 7.5). Hmmm, just realized thats 931 but the puter reads 933. Anyway, with tweaking it would have gone faster but I built it for someone else and wanted it to be totally stable so I left it @ 933.

Hi!

I've asked the same question just for the Athlon a little time ago.

As you can see here that the anad tem list a few MB that do not have problem booting first at 100 and the the bios overrides that to 133 with the setted multiplier. Te board that boots first at 133 will run into dificulties because it can hang before it reaches the bios (9x133 it could be too much for that Duron then)...

I don't know about your board but if the 133 FSB must be set from a jumper than you could be in difficulty trying to boot at 133FSB.
But as I say I don't know your MB...

I also saw a lot of ppl saying that the high speed Duron's do not overclock too well. Especialy the 900 because to get past 1.1 Ghz it would require the copper interconects version. Only the 1Ghz+ are copper interconects.

It would be more realistical to get a 750 or 800 Duron and bump the FSB. You could reach between 933 and 1G with them.

Wish you happy OC! Keep us posted.

BTW: hello Bglad, we meet again :)

Cheers,
