Hey guys,

Who has had luck with cheaper cars? I currently drive a Dodge Neon. It drives, I put gas and oil in it. Is it feasible to find another car cheap (under 5k) with this possibility?

So far I clocked 133,000 miles on it and I started with 12,000 when I bought it. It's a crappy drive but it works I guess, had it since 2003.

I don't want to get into debt as my company is getting bought out at the end of the year so in 1.5 I might be jobless although I have plenty of money saved.

Ultimately I want to get a used Dodge Challenger, Charger, or a Chrysler 300C and want to hold off until then.

The used car market seems over priced right now. :-/

I was thinking a Mercury Grand Marquis but it seems the sweet spot is a used one for 10Kish.

Is the Neon on the verge of dying? Why not just hold on a little longer and save the cash for the new Charger or Chally?

Want a cheap bullet proof car (more theoretically but could go both ways). Get a cheap retired police crown vic or grand marquis. Ride should be comfortable. Repairs easy and cheap. Performance pretty good. Price very cheap.

Supposedly has a head gasket leak... but I was told that about 2 years ago I think and I'm still driving it.

I was thinking about a Police car but someone brought up the point that at some point a Police car probably had an arrested person probably defecate or piss all over the back area... that thought kind of killed it for me... maybe if I can get a detective car.

What leads you to believe someone didn't do this in any other car that you might be interested in buying? I also think the amount of people that defecate on themselves while in a car is quite low, even when dealing with common criminals. And they cleaned it up I'd assume. Unless there is shit in it, I'd not worry about it.

Have you ever been in a police car? I have never been arrested but while waiting for a ride, a tow, and once even given a ride home, I have sat in the back of a police car. When in duty they have these hard plastic seats with really really deep seats. Which means that A.) The temptation to defecate or piss in the back is minimized because they will end up getting the worst of it. B.) That they aren't pissing or pooping on the seats that you are going to get (pretty sure they reinstall a factory bench). C.) even if you did get one with plastic back seats It will be so much easier to clean that I would be more worried about fecal matter from the driver farting in a lease on cloth seats than some drugged up hobo shitting in the back of a police car.
